The Lamborghini was founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini in the year 1916 in Italy. He had an interest in cars and engines right since childhood. During his early years he joined the army and since nothing much was happening there he ended up repairing all the cars and trucks that came his way. This is how his prowess and passion for all things mechanic and cars was further spiked.
When he returned to Modena after the army stint was over he set up his own really small car and motorcycle unit. This was the beginning and from then on there was no looking back for him. He then forayed into the world of high quality tractors and made it into a successful venture. Anything linked with the automotive industry that he touched became a grand success.
That is also the time when he wanted to develop a really fast car. He had been the proud owner of a Ferrari and Masserati and he wanted to better his car to theirs so that his customers would face no disappointment. That is when he found a designer called Giampaolo Dallara and decided to have a car built with a V12 engine. This was the first step towards a host of other cars that were to follow from the Lamborghini manufacturing unit.
Then, came about the Lamborghini 350 GTV prototype new age car. There were 130 of these cars sold. This was when Lamborghini decided that his future was certainly bright in the car industry. Right since its inception the Lamborghini has gone on to devise cars that are innovative and fall back on the vision that their founder Ferruccio Lamborghini had for them right since the year 1963. The key objective with which it was started was to provide a car that gave its competitors a run for their money.
The models that roll out of this particular assembly line are known for the powerful engines, the quality and comfort and the refinement that they bring along with them. The company went through a difficult phase when it incurred losses and had to file for bankruptcy. That is when it was taken over by Audi. This was the period that brought the Lamborghini brand to its past glory. The phase signified a great amount of stability for it and also brought about record sales.
The Lamborghini cars main manufacturing unit continues to be at Sant'Agata Bolognese. This is the place where the automobile production lines and the single factory work side by side to manufacture the best of cars with the brand and logo Lamborghini attached to them. There are about 3,000 cars that roll out of this production unit annually. There are two basic models that are manufactured which is the V10 powered Gallardo coupe and roadster. The other flagship car of Lamborghini which was the V12 powered Murcielago coupe and roadster have been discontinued in 2010. There is a newer model in the offing in its place.
