The Pininfarina car was first made by its founder Pinin Farina in the year 1930. Since then it has been associated with the best in class vehicles and innovative design and style. The Pininfarina car manufacturers until the early forties concentrated only on the design of special car bodies. This was the concerted effort to bring about more innovative styling in the cars with a whole lot of technical features. The Pininfarina cars had to compete with the Alfa Romeos, the Lancias and the Fiats. This was quite a bit of competition for them.
After the World War was over the first car called the Cisitalia was rolled out and displayed in a modern art museum in New York. then, Pininfarina collaborated with an American car make called Nash in order to fulfill its dream of making it big in the international markets. It entered into an agreement with Peugeot and then later on with Ferrari. This brought about a huge technical and design collaboration and allowed Pininfarina to make the best of cars.
In the fifties, Pininfarina also began to manufacture the Alfa Romeo Guilietta Spiders. This was the time that it shifted base from Turin to Grugliasco. The founder's son of Pininfarina, Sergio Pininfarina made great changes. This was the time when the manufacturing structures were strengthened and the collaborative agreements with the other car manufacturers were signed.
There have been some really wonderful cars made by Pininfarina. One such car that came about in the year 1984 was the Ferrari Testarossa. This was the car of people's dreams in the 1980s. The Ferrari Testarossa was manufactured by Pininfarina until the year 1991. It was a two door coupe with a fixed roof to it and a 12 cylinder engine. After this the two other cars that were manufactured are the 512 TR and F512 M. These cars were produced between the years 1992 and 1996. Over the years the car manufacturer has been associated with the most innovative and creative of designs. The latest add on in the year 2001 has been the Hyundai Matrix. This is the kind of car that is a two-box sedan with the best of features laden in it. It has been voted the best car of the year.
Then in the year 2002, The four door new GM Daewoo Nubira Saloon made its debut in Seoul Motor Show. Then in the year 2003 the new concept car called "Enjoy" was debuted by Pininfarina at the Geneva Motor Show. In the year 2003 there was an agreement reached with Lagardere SCA group to purchase Matra Automobile. Then, at the 60th Frankfurt International Motor Show, Maserati Quattroporte that was designed by Pininfarina made it debut.
In September 2003, Pininfarina and Volvo Car Corporation got into a joint venture with 60% of the shares belonging to Pininfarina and the remaining 40% to Volvo. This is in agreement to develop the next generation convertible for Volvo.
